In 10 minutes I learned 10 new things. I learned that Obama nor Hillary are the “first” woman and black man to enter a presidential race. A woman named Shirley Chislom was the first, back in 1972. She was black and she (obviously) was a woman. She entered the presidential race without endorsement and affected a lot of people during her campaign.  Reading this post on Racialicious, I thought to myself; “I’ve found a new idol.”. Here is a quote from one of her speeches;

“I stand before you today as a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the Presidency of the United States of America. (Clapping.)

I stand here now without endorsements from many big name politicians or celebrities or any other kind of prop. I do not intend to offer to you the tired and glib clichés, which for too long have been an accepted part of our political life. I am the candidate of the people of America. And my presence before you now symbolizes a new era in American political history.

I have always earnestly believed in the great potential of America. Our constitutional democracy will soon celebrate its 200th anniversary, effective testimony, to the longevity to our cherished constitution and its unique bill of rights, which continues to give to the world an inspirational message of freedom and liberty.

Senator John McCain appeared on SNL last saturday, as I live in Sweden, I did not know about this until today.

Well, from my viewing point, there is so much attention on the two democrats right now, that McCain have almost been forgotten. That’s why I think it’s really strong of him to appear on SNL and joke about his shortcomings. I’m sure he got a hefty pay check as well. My last words for today: Good For him! He’ll certainly need it!

I would like to say no. Compassion is just a “feeling” created to satisfy our need to become one with the herd. I know. I sound awful and very cynical and if you let me get to my point, you’ll see that I am a hypocrite.

People who support a child in a third world country only do this to ease their guilty mind. It’s the same with doctors without borders, they do not travel to the third world countries to help, they only do this to make

themselves feel better because they know that if they want to they can hop on a plane back home and live happily ever after. (Wow, that was a long sentence)

Yes, to the hypocrite part; I support a child in Cape Verde, and I guess my arguments apply to me too. I saw a commercial on TV showing how poor and how hard i was for young children in a third world country to afford education etc. so I started to support this young boy in Cape Verde and there for gave his family money to repair their house and afford as said, education for the children. I believe this is a good thing to do, don’t get me wrong, but I did it for the wrong reasons, like everyone else. I have never (and do not expect to do so) met a person who genuinely care about helping people.

I am no better myself. I know that, I have that self-perception. It is wrong of me to mess with everybody who actually does something, even when it comes out of the wrong intentions, the help we give the less fortunate is better than no help.

Am I the only one who do not like Madonna?

She is turning 50 and is still jumping around in revealing costumes. Is it wrong of me to think that that is wrong? Maybe, she has the right to do what ever she wants. (Gosh, I sound like a prude… and I, who believe that everyone has their right to do what the hell they want…)

Well… I can’t say that I am not bias, I am. I do not like her music that much, and I do not like her strutting around in small bathing suits. And hey, remember, I’m from Sweden, I’m used to “naked” women, and I think Madonna is out of line. What does that tell you?

I am a true Macintosh lover. With out my MacBook, iMac and iPod, I don’t know how I could survive. They are simply beautiful.

It is disgusting and horrible. I know that all of the american population is probably fed up with this story, but it is just appalling.

Is it just me, or is this whole boycotting the Olympics in Beijing kind of stupid?

I mean, sure, it depends on what kind of boycott the different countries decided to use, but I do not think it will help that much.

An ordinary boycott would mean that none of the world leaders would participate in any kind of ceremony and the people of Chins would sit in front of their tv’s and wonder why. But hey, we all know that the Chinese government will come up with an explanation; maybe they all got the bird flu, what do I know?

An embargo (the kind of boycott that was forced on South Africa) would mean that all trade, import and export would end with China. Sure, it would affect their economy, since almost all the trade China does is export and not being able to sell the products to any country would be a disaster. On the other hand would China probably mange since almost all of their food resources comes from their own country. And hey, the sanction forced upon South Africa in 1963 did indeed affect the country, but South Africa fought until 1992 when they finally gave up and removed apartheid, which was the reason to the sanction in the first place.

Well, over all; Sanctions may and may not work. China may as well be a new South Africa = Surviving the sanction for almost 30 years. My recommendation is to leave China alone (Yes, I know that they torture people and beat down protesting monks in Tibet.). But if the United States feel like it, why not bomb the whole country, start a new expensive war and hope for the best? I mean, there could be terrorists living there! (Yes again, I am well aware that a war between China & United States could mean a nuclear war. Maybe China is just using its uranium to give the people in the country electricity like Iran. But what do I know?)

Since I visited Paris, France, this week I watched some of the news, okey, I admit; I didn’t understand shit. But, I thought it was fitting writing about France now that it is so fresh out of my memory.

I just read this article and thought it was quite funny. The idea that the French president Sarkozy is giving the French press a boost in sold copies by getting married to singer/model Carla Bruni (who is actually a good singer) is tickling.

Me and a friend of mine were eating lunch at a restaurant in Montparnasse, and during the whole morning we had seen a lot of police cars driving up and down in Montparnasse. So, out of pure curiosity we asked the waiter (in French of course), what was going on. He answered that the young were demonstrating against growing school classes, fewer teachers and against Sarkozy. You could see as he talked that he got more and more upset. When I got home a told this story to my parents, they looked like question marks. They hadn’t heard a thing about it.

What I am trying to say is, why does no news source report on this? How can Sarkozy’s marriage be more interesting than a huge demonstration organized by the young? This is a huge problem in most of European countries, it has gotten so serious that even the young is complaining. What happened to “Take care of the young. They are the future!”

I am back from a trip to Paris and I promise that I will start updating. I just have to update myself on what has happened in the world while I was in France. Let’s see how that will go.
